On April 29–30, 2025, the biennial European Fluoropolymer Technology Conference, “Innovations using Fluoropolymers,” co-hosted by the German Plastics Center (SKZ) and the German Association of Semi-Finished and Consumer Plastic Products, was successfully held in Würzburg, Germany. The event drew a large contingent of companies from multiple countries engaged in the research, development, production, processing, and application of fluoropolymers, with nearly 80 participants in attendance. A Chinese delegation of fluoropolymer processing enterprises, led by Wang Zhanjie, Chairman of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, and Zhu Wulan, Secretary-General of the Fluoropolymer Processing Specialized Committee, took part in the conference.

This conference featured 15 keynote presentations, covering a wide range of topics including market dynamics of fluoropolymers, cutting-edge innovative applications, policy and regulatory analysis, and green, sustainable development. At the invitation of Conference Chair Dr. Michael Schlipf, Secretary-General Zhu Wulan of the Fluoroplastic Processing Committee of the China Plastics Association delivered a presentation titled “The Chinese Fluoropolymer Market,” outlining the current state of China’s fluororesin market, discussing the impact of PFAS‑related regulations on the fluoroplastics industry, and articulating emerging trends and future directions for the Chinese fluoroplastics market. The presentation drew extensive attention and sparked in-depth discussions among attendees. Liu Guanglu, General Manager of Shanghai Jiuce Materials Technology Co., Ltd., served as the interpreter.

At the conference, Dr. Michael Schlipf, Chair of the session, outlined the evolution of fluoropolymers in Europe, analyzing the unique challenges facing the market—including applications and emerging trends, as well as the economic implications of proposed PFAS restrictions. Mr. Deepak Kapoor of Gujarat Fluorochemicals presented an overview of relevant regulations and highlighted industry initiatives and future directions aimed at reducing non‑polymeric PFAS emissions during fluoropolymer processing. Dr. Martin Lemke of Daikin Chemical Europe shared the company’s cutting‑edge achievements in new materials innovation. Mr. Chris Kent of AGC Chemicals Europe discussed the distinctive advantages of ETFE and its broad application prospects across multiple sectors. Mr. Cedric Triquet of Chemours explored the critical role of fluoropolymers in enhancing European competitiveness and advancing sustainable development. Dr. Meng Yeqiao of Shandong Dongyue Polymer Materials Co., Ltd. addressed the applications of PTFE in medical devices and dry‑process electrodes. Dr. Deng Bowen of Zhonghao Chenguang Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. provided an analysis of the current status and future prospects of fluoroplastics in the new‑energy vehicle sector. In addition, numerous leading international companies in the fluoroplastics industry delivered compelling presentations.

This conference jointly explored the development of the global fluoroplastics industry, serving as a major forum for in-depth exchange of industry insights. Through dialogue and knowledge sharing, we gained a comprehensive understanding of the latest market trends and cutting-edge applications of fluoroplastics on the international stage, while also showcasing the robust growth of China’s fluoroplastics sector to the world. The successful organization of this event holds significant importance for advancing technological innovation and sustainable development within the global fluoroplastics industry.
